I f you want to listen to this weeks Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy Radio show check out our podcast.

If you just want the tips then read on.

Challenge Number 1: You're feeling isolated and having a hard time finding a partner because everyone is so busy.

Solution: try reconnecting with your friends or better yet get your kids involved.

Challenge Number 2: You are in a negative spiral that may not end until January. You are close to giving up.

Solution: Restart your program right now. Don't wait until your new years resolutions to get back on track do something today to help yourself.

Challenge Number 3: Weather is getting bad, making you want to exercise outside even less.

Solution: Play group activities outside or go to the gym. December is a notoriously slow time at the gym so you can exercise there in a climate controlled environment.

Challenge Number 4: you fell completely off the healthy eating habit.

Solution: Avoid the emotional eating the holidays sometimes cause. Get back on track as soon as you can. And remember it is not all or nothing. Try just eating a little healthy today to get you back on track. Instead of eating a huge dessert try having just a bite. Remember something is better than nothing.

Tips To Deal With Those Relatives Who Try And Sabotage Your Good Eating Plan

Last nights Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy radio show had the Doctor and myself role playing different ways to answer some common traps those obnoxious relatives who try to sabotage your healthy eating lay for you.

The sabotage statement is in bold and your clever retort is below it.

I made this especially for you.
I appreciate the kind gesture but I am on a specific regimen and I am finally doing very well. i really do appreciate the hard work you have put in. Or Tell person prior to coming over for holiday that you will not be eating that much but are coming for the experience of being with friends and family

I'll have to throw out the food if you don't eat it.
I would be more than happy to bring this to a homeless shelter. I will be going anyway!

Are you on another diet?
It is not another diet, I am trying to modify my behaviors and I struggle during this time of the year.

It's a special occasion you can start after the holidays.
The occasion is about being with the ones I care about not eating

I made this with no fat and the dessert is sugar-free.
I understand but it is important for me to not exceed my caloric allotment and I know I have exceeded it.

Your ruining my hard work by not eating!
I am sorry you feel that way. I thought sharing the experience with my friends and family was the important part.

I need you to set the table right now.
It is important that I don't skimp on my exercise so that I am doubly affected by the holidays. I was also hoping to take advantage of more free time! I'll help out when I come back.

Wait for me to exercise (and then she cancels on you)
I was all ready and motivated to exercise and I wanted to be a team player to help you out and now you cancel on me. Don't be selfish!

Weight Loss Tips To Get You Through The Holidays With Your Dress Size Intact

Last night's Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy Radio show was one of our best. We shared lots of tips to help you deal with the holidays such as:

Remember the objective of the holidays is to reconnect with family. Eating may be the setting but you should focus on the time with your loved ones not the amount of food consumed.

Be aware that some people get depressed during the holidays and seek comfort in food. Find other places to seek comfort like exercise, helping others or if that doesn’t work…escort services.

Don’t give up before you begin. Don’t give yourself the excuse “it’s the holidays I can eat whatever I want”

Watch your portions. You can try everything, but don’t take huge portions of everything.

Avoid all or nothing mentality. Either I’m dieting and will avoid everything or forget it I cheated so I might as well eat whatever I want

Replace sweet with spicy. Sweet craving go away when you eat something spicy.

Drink more water. Sometimes when you think you feel hungry you actually are thirsty. Drink water first.

Fiber and salad are your friends.

Eat slowly. It takes your brain 20 minutes to realize its full. Put fork down between bites is a way to slow down.

No elastic banded pants.

Set up realistic goals. Maybe go instead of trying to lose weight over the next 6 weeks go for just trying to maintain your weight

Rachet up your activity level

Substitute ingredients to make holiday meals healthier – applesauce instead of oil in cakes, egg substitutes instead of whole eggs, non fat yogurt instead of sour cream

Watch your liquid calories – egg nog, alcohol

Don’t beat yourself up if you go nuts one night. Just watch yourself the next day.

Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy Podcast Now Available On Demand

During the first half of last night's Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy we talked about the best ways NOT to work out your abs. We also named several of the products out there that are just plain ripoffs. One product is supposed to electrically stimulate your ab muscles as you sleep. Well, the manufacturer neglected to mention the electrical burns you get when you leave it on too long.
For more tips listen to our podcast on-demand replay.

The second half of the show we spent talking soccer with Penny "The Punisher" Hendry. She is a business executive who took her love of kickboxing out of the aerobics room and brought it into the boxing ring. She talked about her training, her nervousness about getting in the ring for the first time and what it felt like to leave her opponent a bloody mess.
